Venue Shopping

Hi there, Reader;

Shopping for venues is one of my favorite things to do in wedding/meeting/event planning. Why you might ask, why you might ask.  In shopping for venues one gets to see how the client will be treated. How the venue will recieve the bride, the client, the business professional.  

In the case of a vineyard the event will most likely get to see the vineyard filled with plenty.

Plenty, if it is the right season the vineyard will be over flowing. Abundance, a time filled with celebrations, banquets, family gathers, friends, joyous music.  One can just visit a the venue and feel the presences of event past.

I get the pleasure of visiting the vineyard when it is bare. The pruning or prun vineyard doesn't look as inviting. The color are almost not there. They are more like shades of brown. It is still the same for the person who is shopping or tring to find the perfect place? I say not, the have to see beyond the pruning and see the hope of tomorrow.  In a sence they look into the future.  What will they see? Do they see and event filled with those they love? Do they see celebrations, do you see success?  In this venue I saw all of that, success, celebrations banquets, warm talks by the fire place, fountains of running water, when I see a well planned venue then I know I will recommend it.

This venue will have a vineyard of fullness again. I too will be hired to plan events in this venue.

I too had a season that was bare.  With belief I too can conquer what other want from me and produce  events that are worth of His praise.

What type of Wedding Planner to Hire

SHOULD YOU HIRE AN EXPERIENCED PLANNER OR A NEWCOMER?

Dear Readers,

I personally think planning is one of the most important jobs in our business. The sooner all of our clients understand the importance of having a planner, the sooner their events will run smoothly.

For myself, I get so frustrated when clients look at me and say, “Preston, I already did it all myself. Do I really need a planner?” My answer is always the same; you only need a planner if you truly want to enjoy your event.

A note to all of you brides out there: I promise you that there is a lot that you think you know that you really don’t. With that said, I completely understand your frustration in questioning the role of a planner. I have been around long enough to see the invaluable business of planning come to life. It is for this reason that I’m going to use today’s blog post to describe the two different kinds of planners in the hopes that it might make your choice easier.

The New Planner:

This is the planner who has up to two years of experience in the field (we all need to start somewhere). You might pay less for their services, which is fine as long as you do not expect the same quality of service you would from a seasoned planner. Even though there are great planning courses out there, nothing – and I mean nothing – beats experience. These planners most likely have excellent organizational skills (a big plus for you) as well as an amazing desire to learn, which can also be a huge plus. Still, speaking candidly, you are likely going to get what you pay for when it comes to their services. As long as you understand that hiring a newcomer is great, you have managed expectations, saved money and given a newcomer a chance to learn. After all, a lot of clients took a chance on me and some got good results while other results were not so great.

The Seasoned Planner:

These are the folks who have seen it all. I would say they have at least five years of experience navigating through disasters and learning from them. These are the planners who are going to be candid and tell you, “No, that will not work,” to your face (with a smile, of course). These are also the planners who, without question, will charge you more. In the long run, they might also help you save money and frustration. My only advice to you brides is to pay them well and ask them to confirm, in writing, that they are not collecting additional commissions from their vendors. We call that double-dipping.

The Bottom Line: Try not to hire a planner solely based on their fees.

I hope this helps all of you brides-to-be out there.

The 1980s became the Me! Me! Me! generation of status seekers.   During the 1980s, hostile takeovers, leveraged buyouts, and mega-mergers spawned a new breed of billionaire.  Donald Trump, Leona Helmsley, and Ivan Boesky iconed the meteoric rise and fall of the rich and famous.  If you've got it, flaunt it and You can have it all! were watchwords.   Forbes' list of 400 richest people became more important than its 500 largest companies.  Binge buying and credit became a way of life and 'Shop Til you Drop' was the watchword.  Labels were everything, even (or especially) for our children.  Tom Wolfe dubbed the baby-boomers as the 'splurge generation.'  Video games, aerobics, minivans, camcorders, and talk shows became part of our lives.   The decade began with double-digit inflation, Reagan declared a war on drugs, Kermit didn't find it easy to be green, hospital costs rose, we lost many, many of our finest talents to AIDS which before the decade ended spread to black and Hispanic women, and  unemployment rose.  On the bright side, the US Constitution had its 200th birthday, Gone with the Wind turned 50,  ET phoned home, and in 1989 Americans gave $115,000,000,000 to charity.  And, Internationally, at the very end of the decade the Berlin Wall was removed - making great changes for the decade to come!   At the turn of the decade, many were happy to leave the spendthrift 80s for the 90s, although some thought the eighties TOTALLY AWESOME.

The 1980's the generation known for "Me" was about themselves?  Not believing that this was in tiredly true. 

  They were thought to be trying to find their own individuality. 

 Their need was to make their way in life.  The pervious generations were the ideals of the 50's the freedom of the 60's the dance era of the 70's the 80's used computers to print invitation.        Computers became part of education,                 Creativity, was a part, the Prince Charming arrived on a white horse, to take his bride away.  The world witnessed a Royal wedding.  Patterns were more available and people planned both home formal and informal weddings. 

  

                                                                       It was a time of celebration. 

         There were new magazines for brides to use as reference.

                                                                                                                                                 The world saw weddings from other Cultures,   Princess from other nations. The American way changes as we become educated on the other cultures, race, religion. Computers played a big part the beginning of Internet let people research their weddings and see how different marriages operate.

The chaotic events of the 60's, including war and social change, seemed destined to continue in the 70's.  Major trends included a growing disillusionment of government, advances in civil rights, increased influence of the women's movement, a heightened concern for the environment, and increased space exploration.  Many of the "radical" ideas of the 60's gained wider acceptance in the new decade, and were mainstreamed into American life and culture.  Amid war, social realignment and presidential impeachment proceedings, American culture flourished.  Indeed, the events of the times were reflected in and became the inspiration for much of the music, literature, entertainment, and even fashion of the decade.   

Social change, what the parents of the 50's tried to change for the soldiers that had returned home,their children decided it was time for social change. Their desire for social change, fighting against a war that was never labeled a war. The hypocrisy of change, government and what the world had to offer.  This also affected weddings, free love, Wood Stock, drinking, drugs, civil rights.  All things combine brought change no one ev though they would.  

 Invitations showed the angelic viewpoint of marriage.

 It manifest as Halle's. 

 Wedding parties are in churches and outdoors, both portrait styles were acceptable, just not as refined as today.

 The "Romio and Juliet" look was popular

  No traditional venues with your guest following you for a free love moment. Or

Traditional vows, both are acceptable, it's about knowing yourself. 

 The new platform shoes were in fashion! Woman had a platform, a stand, a voice in what happens to them.

 The fun thing about this era is era today is we get to mix and match, the beauty of this generation, the romance with modern design and creat a new.

 Decor for that era was as individual as the person.

Whatever car you choose, you know you've done the right thing when you and your family choose it together.

 As you can see the bride of the 1970's also knew glamour!   She can also be whimsy and combine the peace of the 70's with glamour in an attempt to be both.

The age of many who started with nothing and build a family, home, career overcame adversity to begin their own lives.  It does't sound any different then today or does it?

From POP Culture to weddings today the changing times left people of this generation not knowing where or how they would survive.  They battled in war, were hungry and had to come up with the thoughts of might men.  Woman were liberated as they had to survive without their loved ones while they fought at war. How did this affect weddings? Just like all generations they were influenced by literature and the love of reading.  They romance of after war celebrations with the Great Gatsby and the celebration of movies.  This generation of adults faced the unknown.

There is nothing as fun as a Greta Garbo wedding.  In modern times we get the romance of the 20's with the connivence of our modern times.

 However, strict beliefs of some of the families did not always believe in the romance of the time. Some weddings got very practical.  Marry my daughter or else. 

While Pop culture is fun to live through and experience wedding planners have to understand the bride and her era.  In order to create the wedding she desires. 

  Is she like Jackie Kennedy who was marring her prince in Camelot? A dream come true and her perfection as a woman at the time endured though all things to make her one of the most amazing survivors of my childhood.  We watched her as she lived her life out.  Her fairy tale wedding didn't have the happy ending she had hoped for.

Non the less their are also other princess in other cultures. Many cultures have princesses. Japanese culture is just one of them they treat their women with respect and honor because of what she is to her family.  The importance of a mother in the culture means that the dad or father helps teach the children not only to respect her but also to honor her.

Each culture and individual has the right to bring up their family as they choose.  

Stationary along with invitations kept the dream of the princess with her beautiful dress and long train a reality

 Some or the stationary of the time showed all the feminine treats of the era. 

The bride and the bridegroom and his love for her allowing her to be herself.

Wedding Veils also displayed  or showed a reverence for her beliefs. Long or short it spoke of the woman's belief, her taste and how she saw things.

The desire a woman has to be Beautiful for her husband has not changed.  What has changed is how beauty is defined.  The things that were beautiful in the 20's does not mean it is beautiful today,

                                          Today's bride is decisive.  Tech savvy a little more knowledgable about the world with it at her fingertips.  They are brought up with knowing how to do things the generations before did not have to know.  The one thing that both can have in common is belief systems, religion, faith, or relations.  What type of bride do you want to be?

 

There are venues that caterer to this type of weddings.  1920's wedding in modern times.  I will post pictures later.
