Restaurant Reviews

There is this restaurant in Encinitas on Hwy 101 where people show up to eat a delicious lunch or dinner. This restaurant makes me laugh and enjoy the people watching.

Woman how up with their friend and men with theirs. The first time I showed up their was one Superbowl Sunday not wanting to watch the game alone. I ate way too much and laugh to much at the joy in this place.  Not really paying attention to the actual decor or food choices. It was the Superbowl afterall and it's always about appetizers for me. I laugh at the thought of that.

This time I just wanted a nice lunch. I was doing the usual things about town like taking the dog to the groomers, shopping, and banking. On those days when I am really busy. I stop and buy lunch.

I'm usually alone and that is one of the things I love checking out about restaurants. How they treat woman, or today I should say people who eat alone at restaurants.

I made the menu large enough so you can see the variety they have. This time I ordered a dish that I use to eat at a friend's house. While I was waiting I was having fun reading some of the mail I had picked at the post office. I received an offer for a clack card. Hum!!! Then I received one for a Shell CrΓ©dit card that totally made me upset! Why? The interest rate is at 25 % that's like saying for the privilege of purchasing their product I will now have to pay them an additional 25 cents on the dollar. Are all credit cards really charging that much I thought to myself. I understand that if I don't have a balance on the card I don't have to pay the interest. Why should I give you 25 cents for each dollar  I spend on your product. You should be paying me for the interest in your product and wanting to use it in my vehicle. There so many other places I can purchase gasoline. I guess I missed the part when interest rates went up. Maybe that's because I don't open junk mail. Talk about nickle and diming a person? I don't have to purchase Shell gasoline. Better stop before I rant all over the place. That's not what this blog is about.

Back to the subject of Union Kitchen & Tabs I do have a live Instagram while I was at the Union on Instagram. com/nodsish. I hope you'll look at item it remixed me of my grandmother's porch. We'd sit out there with her as she'd tell me stories and the neighbors would pass by and she'd wave to them or they would stop and tell a story or two. In the live Instagram you'll be able see the cute decor plus there is a moment where I stick my hand and arm out the window to show you how open it is. Also the large portions of food servings.

The food is delicious! This time I ordered the Gumbo. My second mom was from Louisiana and she made a delicious gumbo. I remember it as green. When I was served the gumbo I was surprised. It was delicious and filling. It had much more chicken, sausage shrimp then I had anticipated. It was more than enough for two Maria Kamon servings. When I got home I had to look up gumbo recipes to see what what was different. I finally figured out she added collard greens and then we got to add the sides. Such as chicken, sausage, shrimps, beef. It was delicious. Their portion size was enough to fill up two Maria Kamon's. I took the rest and ate it for dinner.

Can't wait til next time. Looking forward to trying the fish and chips. Should I bring a friend. Then we can both hang out at window. Silly thought!

If I have to give it a rating it would be ⭐⭐⭐⭐ out of 5 stars. That's because they didn't serve it with bread.

Location in a small shopping center in Carlsbad. It might be La Costa sits this small very modern clean Kitchen. It's custom made art work on the walls let's you know not only their logo, also their name. Beach Plum Kitchen . It's a little cozier than I thought.  Located at:
 BEACH PLUM KITCHEN
6971 El Camino Real Suite #201
Carlsbad, CA 92009
{760} 931-1362
I sat at the counter because their Kitchen was a little crowded and tables for one was just not available. Don't get me wrong they would have seated me if I would have just waited. However I had not eaten breakfast or lunch and it was past noon. I was pretty hungry.

When your hungry you just don't want to wait.
The sever was quite kind. Service was good. I have this habit of having to wash my hands before I get so while they were preparing my order I visited the ladies room. Clean and easy to move around in. I only wish they would have also offered paper towels as well as the drying hands option only because water spills when a person washes. Most adult woman I know just wipe the spill dry after they wash their bands.  That just a miner detail. Let's discuss the food. That what this is really about.

I purchased the Coconut French Toast with almonds topped with slice bananas.  A over easy egg on the side with orange juice and coffee.

Let's begin with the orange juice. Excellent! Tasted just squeezed!  πŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’Ž

Coffee tasted bitter. Not bitter enough to return, however bitter enough to notice.πŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’Ž I heard their Capacino is better. I didn't want to wait. Plus I was able to see how the server was making them and how neat and clean he was about it.

Egg: perfectly cooked. πŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’Ž

French Toast: Delicious. The recipe is excellent the presentation good. I think I would change the bread to the thicker cut so it doesn't flatten in the middle. Otherwise I wouldn't change the recipe. Some might think the Coconut was overcooked, however that was visual appearance over taste. πŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’Ž

Overall, I enjoyed the fact that the had a good variety of food choices. Liked the fact that their was large and small portions on the table. Perfect for a girls get together, Sunday Brunch, I belive don't quote on this. There might be enough seating in the outdoor patio for a birthday party or group gathering.

Rating: 4 out 5 diamonds πŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’ŽπŸ’Ž

The Fish Shop, Encinitas, CA

Every once in a while one runs into someone who recommends a place to eat. You don't think about it much after that and then suddenly you find yourself right in front of the place they recommended. That's what happened to me. I had seen this little place after it changed owners and renamed itself. I had thought once or twice of entering and I am sure glad I did.

I heard the food was really good. Since I am not really a beer drinker I hastened until that day. The people were really nice and I loved the fact that you don't have to order a beer. However, since I wanted the full experience I asked the waitress to helping pair a beer with the fish and chips I was ordering and she did.

(Please not both photographs were down loaded from The Fish Shop Website.) I brought my camera and didn't take a photograph.

What I discovered were the fish batter is light and with a non greesie flavor. They fish and chips are delicious. I also glad I asked for help in ordering, because of there abundant menu choices. From talking to other guest sitting around the outdoor patio. The Fish tacos are also an excellent choice. I do wish I would have taken a friend with me so they could have done the beer evaluation. Honestly, I just don't have the experience or beer pairing knowledge to the degree I should have to evaluate. The reality is the combination I ate was excellent.

The outdoor seating is comfortable although if it would have crowded that day, I might have felt awkward as a single and preferred a quiet place inside. Overall, I would recommend The Fish Shop. The atmosphere is casual. It's usually pretty busy. Not sure if they take reservation. Worth a call.

MY FAVORITE RESTAURANTS FOR SUNDAY BRUNCH

Walking through the Tunnel

Hi there, Reader:

This past Sunday I went to an area that I would highly recommend for Sunday Brunch. I made a vlog about it and will post it later. The truth is I am still learning how to edit. It is a rambling of my favorite walk at the location and how it welcomes all people. It is a dog friendly area, just make sure you clean up after your own dog. No one I know likes other dogs messes.

The area is lovely and I have recommended it before to San Diegians. In the summer they have a summer concert series like many other areas, plus a Christmas weekend concert series. The main thing is it is a place where you can put away your cell phone, and other devices and just spend tie with family and friend. Plus it has this great little area to walk around.

1. Citrus City Grill

Citrus City Grille

It has a choice of bar seating, indoor seating, patio seating area, plus what I enjoyed was you a variety of food choices. On Sundays they serve a lovely Sunday brunch and also keep the option to order a individual serving. I am not sure if the bar menu is offered on Sundays I honestly forgot to ask. The food is delicious. The service is excellent and I enjoyed the food served.

I sat in the patio area as well as another time I sat indoors. The service is the same in both areas, although I did enjoy seating under the umbrella more. The breeze was lovely and I had more to look at than thebook I brought to read. That's just life of a single reviewer. The cocktails are also delicious. I would imagine the Citrus City Grill is a busy place for singles on Friday and Saturday nights.

Although they are not opened for Sunday Brunch, they are for lunch and their food is delicious. I know this place is so busy it is by reservations only on Friday and Saturday Night. The atmosphere is young and happening. Perfect for date night. During the weekday, I would highly recommend this restaurant for business lunches, or dinners. You would win your clients over with their delicious food.

Not really thought of as a Sunday Brunch place, however it is a place that serves good food. I enjoy all of the variety they have which makes ordering a little difficult. If your not into the Sunday Brunch and just want a place to dine that doesn't cost more than a nickle and a dime. Then this is the place. Reasonable pricing for reasonable portions. The fact that it takes you hours to choose something to eat gives credit to the chefs that can make any order in a reasonable amount of time. Good family quality atmosphere.

5. TAPS Fish House & Brewery

TAPS Fish House & Brewery

Like a good beer with your Sunday Brunch. Then this is the place. Bruchextravadganza I believe that is what they call it. The food is good. The restaurant location is right across from Citrus City and  it offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Do not be confused, there menu is completely different than Citrus City. It has a unique menu of it's own.
That completes my top list of Sunday Brunch Restaurants in the area. If you want check back in a week. I hope to have my Vlog posted by then. In the meantime I hope you enjoy your Sunday's 2017!

6. Miguel's California Mexican Cocina

Miguel’s California Mexican Cocina
You can see from my walk Miguel's is located a walk away from the other restaurants.  You can take a leisurely walk through the tunnel or just drive and park by the movie theater. You have to like eating Mexican food. Who doesn't? Its authentic flavors of American Mexican food are delicious. From their tasty Margarita to their traditional recommendations this restaurant is delicious in flavor. The large portions would fill up any hungry person. Good food, who doesn't like that?

 Dos Logos

Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill

Hi there, Reader:

You know the fun of life, is being able to relate to the people you are with. Those you love, those that love you. When you have good family, good friends, then life is sweet. The joy of life is being able to afford the places that you enjoy being with those you love.

That is one of the things I enjoyed about visiting Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill. It is a family place, that is also comfortable for the business person. The first time, I arrived there it was so packed there was a waiting line out the door. I suggest to make a reservation. The second time I picked an odd time, to late for lunch too early for dinner. The Restaurant is located within the city of Corona, "Dos Logo", is Wood Ranch. How did I find it who knows, I just came across it when I was looking for people to network with. I had found this one wedding dress shop that offered designer wedding dresses for less and was trilled so I walked around and discovered this restaurant. Fire things up in your life and have fun with those you love. On the days that it is too warm, too tired, or you just don't want to fire up the BBQ, call them up and make the drive for the best barbecue I have had in a while.

Hot buttered rolls arrive at your table within minutes.
I know you know when the food is good then the atmosphere becomes the next thing to find out about. This restaurant has both. You'll love this place! It is worth the drive to all my San Diegian friends. The two lakes (Dos Logos) Corona, California approximately an hour and a half drive from San Diego, California.  You can walk around after your stomach is full helps or you can just walk around the outdoor shopping mall.  Better yet, if you are a gentleman take her shopping and purchase the wedding ring you always wanted too.  There is a fun wedding dress store and lots of other things to keep you dreaming about "The Day". Or you can just make it a Movie date, there are several theatres in the neighborhood.

BBQ Tri-tip Sandwich with Baked Beans

I had the tri-tip bbq sandwich delicious. I also order the sweet potatoes french fries. When I first arrived they place a basket of hot just baked bread with a butter sauces that was to die for. It was filled with buttery goodness. It continued throughout the whole meal... If you like bbq sauce that is not too sweet then you will like theirs. It is sweet with a tang.

The have 13 restaurants the one I visited is in the City of Corona, CA, "Wood Ranch" Dos Logos (951) 667-4200.

Croce's Restaurant and Jazz Bar

Hi there, Reader:

Have you ever known someone, but not really known them?  That what happened to many of us after living someplace for a long time. That is what happened to me.  The love of music is a funny thing.  When you also have the love of praying for people, in someway or another we are all "His" people.  We are all Gods people we would not have ever been born had we not been created.  I know there are those that would argue. When your young it is like that...

Croche, known by many of us for his talents.  His love of music and knowing how to speak to us with word and song.  How did we survive our youth, without his songs.  Saved many of us from the operator, from the reality, we were to young to really understand the words to the song, however these words spoke to our soul out innocence our love.

Now the new place San Diego Croche as I call it, but many others call it by its real name goes on to continue speaking to people in song.  Jazz is one of those that talks to many. Ingrid, how I applaud your desire to keep music alive for future generations. What a wonderful thing you are doing for our youth and those that know. The Musicians life is not an easy one.  Everyone wants and few give.  May you be blessed all the days of your life.

Named one of Top 3 Restaurant in San Diego  Croce’s Restaurant and Jazz Bar

May your dream...live forever! May we always be young at heart!

Union Kitchen and Tab, Encinitas

Hi there, MKPDE Peopie;

How I love a good place that is fun for the whole family!  Let me share with you a venue that is a trendy for Encinitas. This place you can bring your family too enjoy the locals, talk to others or just come alone and sit and watch the football game.  I know this venue Union Kitchen and Tab has bee here for several years.  It is the first time I visit it.

Who can resist a place where people gather in peace to experience life.  The best of the City and each other.
Families friends gathered talked shared laughs and enjoyed themselves over a cup of coffee, glass of bear or wine.  While they ate of all they had to offer.

Menu:  Every restaurant has their menu. What a menu it is! Loved it.  From hamburgers to flat bread pizza.  Hot wings plus other items.  I ordered the hot wings and a flat bread pizza.  The flavors were delicious.  I know it is a non descriptive word in the vocabulary way.  A better way to describe it would be the flat bread pizza what a marriage of cheese and figs creating a sweet yet bitter taste in your mouth as one chewed it and it melted even the hardest of hearts. It slips down your throat and into your stomach. Your stomach then yelled for joy as it was filled with the pleasure of satisfaction. The hot wings added the meat eaters satisfaction of knowing you are creating a delightful satisfaction, beyond what Adam and Eve would have anticipated.  Brovo to the chef who created the menu.

I have to tell you in my line of employment I get invited to many tastings, it was refreshing to eat food that wasn't the traditional restaurant food.  That wasn't the typical wedding, banquet or business meeting luncheon.  Would I recommend this to my clients absolutely yes. Great place to hold a board meeting if you are an Executive who thinks out of the box, trendy up and coming business person.

The decor isn't the traditional restaurant place with its high seating and open air window concept. Parking is Encinitas style street parking which is traditional in beach cities.  I would highly recommend this for average person or a buy out event.  Though an event planner in the mix and we could have a blast with Union.  There are so many concepts of design for fun events that ran through my mind as I check out the place.  The funnest part is it has private dining areas as well as the Main area or Tab Room.  What fun I could have creating an over the top event for the right client.

I'll be there next Superbowl 2015, hopefully more of my friends will show up since I was stood up by those I invited this year (2014).  They though I wouldn't get in.  The Union Kitchen and Tab is always packed with people be sure to make your reservations.

Pictures to be included at a later date;
