Blow UP!

Hi there, Reader;

Have you ever had a project blow up in your face? Have you ever experienced a presentation blow-up?  I remember when I first begin in the business world and was young and always worried about how I would do what my boss wanted me to do. He or she was called a boss then, today I believe it is a superior or an executive. I recently witnessed the age discrimination when men wanted to meet a person and they fell short of their expectations. They were not young enough of their fantasy wasn't met. Whatever, the reason here are a few coping skills met along the way. Or shall I say I learned along the way.

When it blows up:

  •  You can address the issue with the person. Although, I honestly think they will denied that it happened or that they were trying to sabotage you. I would try this first and when the NO! or the STOP doesn't work. The over the top accusation in the workplace don't go over well. Then show them what you are made of. Not literally let them just experience the reality that you are not willing to allow it.  It doesn't mean it didn't happen it just means the person wants more than you are wiling to give them and you are not responsible for their ambition.
  • Get a witness. First make sure you don't tell the witness anything. So they can help you. It has to be a person or persons you know will do right by you. It might take more than one person you know especially in the workplace. We all have our own interest in mind in the workplace. We are so called responsible for ourselves and no one else. Therefore, you have to make sure that the person you ask for help from will not end up betraying you.
  • You if possible video it, film it, photograph the moment of blow up if you can. Whether it's you getting nervous making a presentation, or when you are trying to put your things together, meet a deadline or just trying to put a project together. Your goal is to succeed in what you do. No for anyone other than to do the job you were hired to do. I believe these moments define the person.
  • Handle each moment with a great deal of patience for yourself. Yes, you have to care about yourself, before others care for you. That means stop any self sabotaging thoughts. You are not required to think bad things or self defeating thoughts about yourself just because someone else wants you to.
  • Keep private things private. The workplace is never the place to share your personal business. If you went out and partied all weekend and show up to work a mess. They will know it. You don't have to share it. Let's face it we are all human and we either covet success or denie it. Self destruction is not what business is about. However, life happens to the best of us. I'd hate to think what happens to the worse of us.
  • Make sure if it is your superior you ask them when the next monetary compensation date is. It is customary that if you have to prove faith in the workplace you are monetary compensated for the experience both with dollars and medical benefits.
