1. Give a copy to your husband of your itinerary. Make sure to include the hotel and places you will be visiting.
2. If you are flying I suggest you let the other person know the airlines and times, dates. For car rental take a photograph of the car and email it to them with the licensed plate number. I personally take a photograph of all four sides. This also helps with insurance.
3. Uber, taxis, lift Make sure the person is paid at the end of the ride after you have arrived safely. As a pre caution you can allow someone as the information that I am gate ting into a taxis will text you or call you when I arrive safely, this too you can send a photograph of the person or car you are getting a ride from. When I taught school I use to call it " stranger danger" I would make the children practice it on field trips. I am not saying you are in danger getting a ride from these companies, I am saying you are out of town and it is always best to practice practical safety advice.
4. Telephone or cell phone safety. Carry all important numbers in some type of written form. Barns and Nobles is selling cute small phone books again. Just in case the battery life on your cell phone runs out, also carry an additional charging device allowing you to change your cell phone. Remember
if your battery on your cell dies and your in an emergency changing it might not be as fast as getting yourself to a safe place.
5. Hotels, make sure you find a hotel with adequate security. It is well light and you know all the safety locations of exits.
6. Enter and exit the hotel through the main door or well light areas.
7. When you enter your room make sure you read the safety information and keep all windows and doors locked. A look out the belcony might not be acceptable if you are not in the right location. Learn about the area your travel rating. Also you can check local police records for the crime rate in the neighborhood.
8. Make sure to not leave items in view it's a temptation for others who may look in your car. In a hotel be sure to leave a tip if you are having the room cleaned every day. The difficult thing is deciding how much tip to leave since it is not mandatory. I suggest between 1-5% of a day's charge, if you are not a needy guest. If you are a needy guest the 10-20% of a day's room change. The difference is one is saying thank you, the other is paying for the additional demands and service you are asking for. Not all hotels have enough people on staff to meet your personal needs.
